  • Program Description

On May 11, the FDA released the highly anticipated final guidance that recommends the adoption of individual donor assessment (IDA) to determine blood donor eligibility. AABB has been collaborating with the FDA on the Donor History Questionnaire (DHQ v4.0) and in an unprecedented move, FDA accepted the DHQ on the same day.

This 75-minute program will provide an overview of the guidance and faculty will walk blood collector personnel through the changes. Additionally, speakers will address implementation considerations such as timeline, regional questions, estimated blood volume, etc. The final speaker will provide an overview of AABB resources – current and near on the horizon – that will be accessible at no charge to all blood center staff. Time will be allotted for an extended Q&A period.

    Objectives

    • Explain the process for and evidence supporting the IDA guidance.
    • Discuss the changes reflected in DHQ v4.0.
    • Locate resources available to the blood community to support IDA implementation.
